acupuncture/naturopath for thyroid problems?

has anyone tried acupuncture to help cope with thyroid disease in any way?

has anyone consulted with a naturopath to help treat a thyroid problem?

just curious. i'm seeing an acupuncturist next week to see if they can help me in any way possible with these unpleasant hypo symptoms.

thanks!

Re: acupuncture/naturopath for thyroid problems?

I have never had acupuncture, but I do see a naturopath for my thyroid. I found the N.D very helpful. She not only focused on my thyroid issues, but she did a saliva test to find out my estrogen levels and my adrenal out-put. So many things in your body can affect your thyroid and conversly your thyroid affects many other parts of your body...makes sense. Dr.'s -specifically specialists - tend to focus on one thing only. Sometimes your thyroid problems are secondary to other malfunctions in your body so taking care of the primary problem can dramatically effect the amount of medication you must take for the thyroid. I like to mix information from my Naturopath and my Endocrinologist to get the best balance for me. Not something either one of them would appreciate, but it's not their body. Hope this is helpful.

Re: acupuncture/naturopath for thyroid problems?

Acupuncture helped reduced my antibodies to Graves Disease....other than an overall good feeling (much like walking or jogging give me) unfortunately it did not help my most troublesome brain fog....if you need meds you need them....but reduced antibodies is certainly a good thing. Pixiek

Re: acupuncture/naturopath for thyroid problems?

Hi Scoot

I have Hashi's and I had 3 sessions of acupuncture.

I felt very relaxed during the treatment, and after I felt like I was walking on air. But on every occasion, I then became very ill, feverish, nauseous, and my Hashi symptoms got much worse the next day.

The acupuncturist said it was 'a healing crisis', and within a few days I should feel better. But each time it took me about 2 weeks to get back to where I had been. I persevered with another 2 treatments, but then the acupuncturist called a halt, as she said the treatment was obviously too strong for me.

To be fair I was very sick at that time, having been newly diagnosed, & with very high TSH and very low T4 & T3. A year later, my TSH is suppressed and my T4 & T3 normal range, so I may try acupuncture again.

Right now, I am seeing a Naturopath whose approach is to use Vit & Mineral supplements and treat for Candida. I am not getting on well, as I
have multiple food intolerances so cannot tolerate any of the supplements she has given me ! Ho hum.

From what I have heard, many people with Hashi's get a lot of help from natural medicine.

all good wishes.
