Urinary burning and hypothyroidism

I was wondering if anyone gets urinary burning as a symptom of hypothyroidism. I have been treated for a mild uti, and went back to the doc yesterday because the symptoms of the uti aren't going away! He tested my urine with a dipstick and the test was negative for infection. He then went on to test the vaginal area. He found some irritation and cells that showed some inflamation but no bacteria. I had recently lowered my estrogen, and he thought that that might be contributing to the problem, told me to go back to the higher dose. He also but me on a vaginal antibiotic even though he didn't find any bacteria. Anyone else have problems like this. This all started just before Christmas, and I am so tired of it.

Re: Urinary burning and hypothyroidism

I had a lot of trouble with yeast infections and slight bladder infections before medications. At the time I also had tender and larger breasts almost all the time (isn't that because of excess estrogen?) though I was not on any female hormones at all (I am 46). This went on for quite a while until I got on thryoid meds....it is one of the few symptoms to have actually gotten better....breast size back to normal and yeast infections and bladder infections (both give you the burning when you go) are rare....pretty sure there is SOME connection with thyroid and all.....

If your labs for thyoid are low in the lab range, perhaps a slight boost would help clear up the problems ....I am not sure, but in my case with the breast size increase and all, it seems extrogen excess was contrubuting to my urinary and yeast infections...perhaps...we are all different.....Pixiek

I seem to have developed an infection of some sort too, perhaps urinary or bladder. Ugggh, this has just been the worst experience ever and I still have a couple days to go before I get to see another doc.

Are uti's common with thyroid problems?

Re: Urinary burning and hypothyroidism

Symptoms of a UTI were one of my first indications that something was wrong (I have Hashi's). I've never tested positive for an infection though.

Interstitial cystitis is a condition that seems to occur often with autoimmune diseases (it may be an AI disease itself). You may want to look it up. I've never been tested but feel that is what may be going on with me.

Love and Prayers, Kelly

Re: Urinary burning and hypothyroidism

Thanks, I'll look that up, i have hashi's as well, I hate it. I've been treated for uti, vaginal infection, and nothing seems to work! Now I can sit here and wonder if I have bladder cancer! Gosh, it's always something!
