CT Scan w/Iodine Contrast

I had a CT scan last Friday that involved an iodine contrast and haven't felt the best since. Nausea, diahhrea, headache, heart palps, sore and tight throat.

Could the iodine contrast affected my thryoid somehow? I was dx'd w/Hashi's 2-1/2 years ago.

Thanks.

Re: CT Scan w/Iodine Contrast

Yes, the contrast dye could affect your thyroid.
Thyroid hormone is made out of iodine atoms. A blast of iodine (the contrast dye) could raise your thyroid hormone levels...or lower your thyroid hormone levels (if it saturated the gland).

Re: CT Scan w/Iodine Contrast

I absolutely refused to get the contrast when I went for my cat scan for that reason only. I didn't want to deal with a flush of iodine in my system. The good news is that it should wear off eventually and you'll be back to normal. Try to stay away from iodine in the meantime.

Re: CT Scan w/Iodine Contrast

Thalnks for the replies. I called my Endo and he had me come up and ran some blood tests. So we'll see. I thought it was way too much of a coincidence for it not to be the iodine.

Hopefully it'll pass more quickly than slowly. One a good note, my CT scan showed everything normal.
