I have a question and didn't want to hijack the thread we were posting on, so started a new one.
I noticed you had so many in your family that had their thyroids removed years ago. Did any of them have problems adjusting meds and how did they all do afterwards? Did it cause them other health problems? I was wondering about the "long term" effect of having no thyroid and having to depend on meds to supply such an important hormone. Could you tell us a little about them.....if they are all still doing well and how long ago each has had thyroid out?
I don't have anybody in my familey with problems. But i know a couple of people with no thyroid and it seems like they don't have a problem with meds. I have mine, but it don't work anymore, i haven't had problems with meds, just trouble finding the right dose. I think it's easer if you don't have a thyroid or it don't work at all like mine, cause then you don't have to work with your thyroid to get the right dose.
my mother had her thyroid taken out when she was 19...she was put on thyroid pills for being hypothyroid after her surgery...i am not sure how long she stayed on them on what she took...she passed away from cancer in 1987...her sister who had her thyroid taken out when she was older is still living...she is doing well on her thyroid pills, she is taking Levoxyl or Synthroid...my cousin is taking Synthyroid since he had his thyroid taken out and he is also doing well...
