What next? Help please!

Hi all,
I have results from 2nd lot of blood tests.....and GP still saying normal and reluctant to treat, even though i went armed with info!

TSH now 3.3 (range 0.5 to 5.5).....last test 6 weeks ago showed it at 3.
T4 now 13 (range 9 to 20).......last test 6 weeks ago showed it at 14.

GP says he would be more inclined to treat if the T4 was showing at 10.......although he admits to being surprised at results as i am so symptomatic of hypothyroidism.

He has done the thyroid antibodies test and we still waiting for those results. he has said he will treat if those come back showing a problem.....but what if they dont?...Will they definately show a problem with all my symptoms? Does everyone with an underactive thyroid have an antibody problem?

Your advice as ever is appreciated.

Tracey

Re: What next? Help please!

that's what my results were like!
my first post is here:

if he's reluctant rather than outright saying "no way" then I'd push for a trial of thyroxine, ask if you can try pushing your results to the other end of the normal range and see if it makes you feel better. they don't tend to have panic attacks as long as you don't ask to go outside their precious ranges

Re: What next? Help please!

Tracey...please consider reading Living with Hypothyroidism by Mary Shomon and Thyroid Power by Richard Shames...both have lots of info on getting a diagnosis/treatment...also have you bought your list of symptoms written down to your doctor...please let us know what happens!

Re: What next? Help please!

Thanks for replies!
I have been back and read your post Becky....its very interesting how similar the results are.....i refuse to give up! I am so certain this is my problem!....Even my gp was shocked at how cold my hands were!!!

I am waiting to get the antibody test results and will then push ahead again and see if he will put me on a trial of thyroxine.......if it works, i have a thyroid problem, if it doesnt!....Well, at least we will know.
One thing is for sure, i know i am unwell and want to get put right!

Pink Princess....thanks for advice....am going looking for the reading you recommend.

Cheers all....nice to know im not alone!
