Update: 10 Days after surgery

Hi everyone...just wanted to drop a line...just had my doctors appt. (10 days after surgery) and he said everything is great...no cancer...no nothing...so I am going to wait for one month to get labs done...other wise I feel great...started putting a pond in 6 days after surgery because I felt so great...but my doctor yelled at me yesterday at my appt. to wait at least 2 more weeks and do things in moderation...so I will do my best...but it is hard when you feel up to doing things to rest...anyway I hope everyone is doing well and anyone who is waiting for surgery hang in there...it really wasn't that bad...the only thing I can say I really hate after surgery is taking the antibiotics...take care everyone...Bernie

Re: Update: 10 Days after surgery

Hi Bernie,
Great news!! Glad you are feeling so well!!!!!
Are you on any meds? They just took about 1/2 and the isthumus- is that correct? I felt GREAT about 5 days after until about 2-3 weeks after - but I had it all out and didn't have enough meds.

Listen to your doc - you CAN overdo - dont'!!! The incision CAN open up again if there is too much stress on it.

SO glad you feel so great.

Re: Update: 10 Days after surgery

Yes...had 1/2 out and isthumus...I was never on meds so the doc doesn't think I will need them...I hope I don't...I didn't realize about the incision "still" being able to open after the cut healed until I talked to him...my husband kept telling me to rest and so did my kids but who listens when you feel good, yah know? but I have dropped it down a knotch with the motoring around...thanks for the kind words...hey...how are your meds now? did you get your levels back to norm??...take care...Bernie

Re: Update: 10 Days after surgery

Hi...my incision is about 2 inches...looks good for just getting it...as for the tightness there is just a little when I tilt my head all the way back but every other position is fine...right above the cut it feels like a tiny bruise and a small spot where I had the drain...I started moving my neck around as soon as I could to loosen it up...sneezing is okay now but yawning is a little tight...as for the voice, just the high pitches like when I am cooing to my grandson (8 mons) are hard to do...the swelling is gone...it seems wierd to see my neck without the lump there any more...I am very thankful my surgery went well and I hope it easies some minds for others waiting to get theirs done...I know I worried myself sick right before mine and everyone here said it would be fine and it was...thank God for this site...take care...Bernie

Re: Update: 10 Days after surgery

Hi Bernie,
You probably won't need meds with 1/2 left. I read somewhere that about 50% of the people with 1/2 never need them - I have a 2nd cousin who is 90 -had 1/2 out YEARS ago - she can't remember when - and has never needed any. The 50% I think included people who had other problems - and sometimes it would be 10 years or more before some people needed them - so, of course, keep an eye on it - the docs may not!

Thanks for asking, Bernie. No , not yet um..............well the doc says they are but my body says they are not. Went from a 75 to an 88 mcg levo dose recently and there MAY be a slight improvement. He was so reluctant to give me a boost - ya know "some use this med for weight loss"!! like give me a break!! Also, "T4 does it all" so am going to a different doc May 9 - til then just hanging in there. BTW - pay attention to the foods to avoid - almonds did a number on me a couple days ago.

Keep up the recuperation - DRINK THE WATER - massage the neck and roll your head around every so often. Read the THINGS WE CAN DO post - I copied it to my word doc. You want to keep your thyroid functioning on its own.

SEE, we told you this is a nothing operation!
