TSH - normal before surgery etc

I have a question or two. I just found out that my TSH was ONLY 2.56 before my thyroid surgery 6 months ago. I have both papillary cancer and Hashimoto's. My TPO (that's the antibodies, right?) were high. But still...I was so hypothyroid, I can't tell you how bad it was. And honestly it was awful for a long time. My TSH is now at 1.46 and my doctor won't up the Synthroid even though I still have symptoms. I want it down to .3 or .5 where he told me initially he wanted it. He's a surgeon (Head/Neck Cancer surgeon) He heads up the Cancer Center in my city. He has both pap. cancer and Hashimoto's. He left the right lobe in after surgery. So wouldn't that mean I will continue to have Hashi's because I have part of my thyroid still?
Also, I have an ultrasound scheduled the week after next. And a Free T4. But not a Free T3. Should I have the "3" done also?

Thanks for your thoughts and help.
