I haven't been diagnosed with hashimoto's yet, but I'm definitely hypo(TSH was 25 the first time I had it checked in December '05.) From January '05 to March '06 I was on Weight Watchers and lost over 50 pounds.

Sorry that I can relate to this problem, but I wanted to offer my support. I have been fortunate enough to avoid the weight issue despite my Hashi's. I am actually underweight.

I have hashi's and did lose weight, but only when I switched from levothroid to Armour. I also started watching my diet more and stayed away from starch foods.

Yup, I lose weight with Hashi's but it's due to the hyperT flare-ups I assume. Generally it's between 5 and 10 pounds. Sometimes I gain it back and sometimes I don't.

Love, Kelly

Hi Thx guys! Yea, Im not sure if i posted correctly......I wanted to say did you lose weight w/out trying.
I see some of you have, like me. Its not even like I stayed the same weight, I've lost. Very strange & non typical. Tryed looking it up but dont find even a small maybe, perhaps symptom w/ hashimotos.
Thx

Re: Anyone w/ AI thyroiditis (hashimoto's) lose weight?

Hi Confused,

I was diagnosed in January. Over the last year I had gained 40 pounds. (Before being diagnosed I was told by my GP that it was "my age" (50). I joined weight watchers and would lose about 2 tenths of a pound a week.

Once I was correctly diagnosed and given levo, I still was losing minimum weight. Once my dosage was increased to 100 I started to lose approximately 3 or 4 pounds a week. To be honest I think most of it is water weight. I stuck with weight watchers though, because believe it or not almost half of the group that I am with at Weight Watchers have a thyroid problem and it has become almost a support group. Weight Watchers also helps to teach you how to control portions and choose healthier foods. Good Luck to you

Re: Anyone w/ AI thyroiditis (hashimoto's) lose weight?

LOL, I definitely wasn't trying...I get ravenous and eat constantly (within half an hour of eating I feel hungry again).

Of course when I get hypo I hardly eat at all but somehow manage to usually gain the weight back .

Go figure!

Kelly
