Re: TSI/Graves testing
TSI antibodies are the antibodies that cause the hyperthyroidism due to Graves disease. If you have been taking ATD's to control your hyperthyroidism then the ATD's have most likely also lowered your antibody levels. (ATD's are a mild immunosuppressant and the only thing known to lower antibody levels other than surgical removal of the thyroid gland, that is why ATD's are capable of bringing about remission of the disease)
It would be a waste to test TSI if you've already been on ATD's for a couple of months....but I'm a big believer in testing TSI to see if a person is in remission BEFORE weaning off of ATD's.
Dx Graves 4/99, tx w/Tapazole & Atenolol - Remission 7/03; Relapse 1/06, back on Tapazole, remission & off meds again 11/06.
