Hi all,
I have been reading the board for a little while and have a question. I am having an FNA on Friday to check out the multiple cystic nodules on the right lobe of my thyroid. The ultrasound report also showed a solid (sub centimeter) nodule in the right side of the isthmus - said it contained calcification. Will they also do the FNA on this? Thanks
I had two nodules and they only did the FNA on one of them...the larger one. My dr. said they usually biopsy anything over 1 cm. and the other nodule I had was smaller. My nodule was very calcified as well.......which I was told doesn't mean anything (more likely benign vs. malignant). The dr. told me that the calcification just means it's a bit more difficult to get the needle in.
If I were you, I'd call and ask if they're going to look at the second nodule as well....it helps to be prepared ahead of time. Good luck with the FNA and the results.
I had 3 nodules all over 1cm, and they aspired all three. If you are having it done at a hospital, look at your script the doctor gave you. It should say how many aspirations they are doing.
