Itchy neck....painful eyes...

The front of my neck is really itchy. It's not like a rash but more like when you have an injury and it's healing...it's a deep itch (it's not in my throat at all though).

My thyroid does seem to be larger but this isn't uncommon for me...everytime I have hypo symptoms my thyroid enlarges. It's never itched quite like this before though.

My eyes have also been aching horribly (kind of a flu-like ache). It gets worse when I'm driving, spend time outside or when I'm on the computer. Last week my upper eyelids were really swollen for a few days (no signs of infection though). I don't know if the two are related since they still hurt but aren't swollen.

Anyone know why I might be having these symptoms (I have hashi's by the way)? I haven't had my labs done in almost a year and my next appt is Sept. 1st.

Thanks for any info!

Kelly

Re: Itchy neck....painful eyes...

You're the first I've encountered who had that same deep neck itch as me, Kelly! Even my doc never met a patient who had it until me. It's miserable, isn't it? I scratched it bloody raw once... kept clawing at it to get to the source, which I never could, of course. It seems to go all the way back to the cervical spine, doesn't it?
I can't prove anything, but I've suspected it has something to do with the antibodies and the breakdown of thyroid tissue.

My doc is a homeopath, and he gave me an hp remedy for the itch. I have to admit, I had no faith it would help - because nothing else has and I'm such a skeptic anyway - but it does work! The name of the remedy is sepia 12x. You can buy remedies at larger health food stores without prescription, but I can't guarantee this particular one will work for you, since I think remedies work best when they're tailored to the individual's constitution and temperament. However, they usually are inexpensive items to buy, so if you're feeling experimental, you could give it a shot. I don't know anything else that'll fix that awful itch... sorry. Nothing else I tried helped in the least.

As for the painful, puffy eyes... It's probably from the buildup of muccopolysachrrides in the tissues around the eyelids and eye sockets. Hypo eyes are hypersensitive to light, too.

All the way till September? Wow... long time to wait. Will it be someone new and better than you've been seeing? Hope so.

Re: Itchy neck....painful eyes...

Hi Midwest! LOL, I've been tempted to just scratch it raw too! I've found that rubbing it firmly helps otherwise I think I would just scratch it all the way through !

I'll give that remedy a try!! I've taken homeopathic remedies and used them with my children successfully (my daughter has significant allergies and we've been using an outdoor allergy formula...it's done wonders for her!).

Yeah, it's quite a wait. I had an appt in March but due to financial reasons I had to cancel it. My endo wanted me to have my labs done anyway but it must not have occured to her that the labs are the expensive part (my office visit is only a $10 co-pay) .

It's still with the same endo. I'm kind of biding my time for now. I've been eating a gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free diet and it seems to be helping my energy level and insomnia but other than that I'm feeling hypo. We'll see how it goes. I'd like to get back on Armour...I felt pretty good on that for the first few weeks (until I had a hyperT flare-up and went over the edge at which point my endo slashed my dosage).

Anyway, I'm hoping to locate a dr early next year to help (I just can't afford to dr shop this year...too much going on already).
