Can't sleep..

Hi everyone. I have been on Synthroid now for 11 years (( since I was 13 )). However, this past year I have been off my meds due to lack of insurance. Just 2 weeks ago, I was finally able to go to the doctor, get my labs and some medicine. The doc put me on 50mcg (( before that I was on 100mcg )). Since starting this medicine, I have not been able to sleep. I stay up until 2 or 3 in the morning, which is really tough on me because I have 2 young kids who wake up early. Did anyone else have this problem when starting or restarting the meds? Is it just my body getting used to it or is it something I need to call my doctor about? Thanks for your help, Andrea

Re: Can't sleep..

Well, I didnt go off the meds by choice, it wasnt a medical decesion or anything like that, it was because I didnt have the insurance. I was diagnosed hypo at age 13 so I've learned what the little symptoms are that tell me the dosage isnt quite right you know, like dry skin and my hair falling out like crazy. But during the year that I was off of the meds, I gained a lot of weight, I was really depressed and had memory loss. After going back to the doctor a few weeks ago, he told me those were all the more severe symtoms of hypo and not taking my meds for that period of time. I just knew something wasnt right. Not only that, I WANTED to go get my thyroid checked because I was feeling crappy and I knew that I needed my meds again. Thanks for your reply

Re: Can't sleep..

Andrea...since you have not taken any thyroid meds for awhile it may be best to start at a lower dose...25 mcg or 1/2 of that for 3 weeks and then increase them slowly...you should be a having a nice sleep then...please let us know what happens
