Dry Skin and Hypo

Hey. I'm new here and have hypothyroidism. I haven't been on my meds (going back to the doc the beginning of the month) and have been suffereing through many different ill feelings. One that's not so ill is dry skin, however can that be the cause of hypo. I never really had the dry skin before.

Thanks for your answers.

Re: Dry Skin and Hypo

Yes dry skin is a symptom. You may need to have your meds adjusted.

Hi there!

So have you been on meds in the past and stopped taking them or have you never been on them?

Dry skin is a symptom of hypothyroidism, not a cause... If you're suffering from dry skin then you should go back to your doctor and see if you can get your meds increased. I've also found that taking Evening Primrose Oil and Cod Liver Oil helps with my skin.

Hey, thanks guys. I was on the meds, and t went away, then got off the meds (for personal reasons) and then they came back. I do use numorous oils to id the problem in the meantime though.

Re: Dry Skin and Hypo

Hi Ray,

If you were on meds for a thyroid condition then the reason the symptoms went away is because you were being treated - it doesn't work like antibiotics where you treat it until it goes away and then stop! If your thyroid isn't functioning correctly it needs a boost, almost always permanently. Have you talked to your doctor about the reason you stopped taking the meds? There are several different treatment options if the one you were on didn't suit you.
