How do you find the thyroid test on blood work. The DR. said she would test for it. I got a copy of blood work, but can't find it. Also does it take awhile to come back? If it doesn't are there abbreviations I need to look for? Thank you.
There are several "thyroid tests", and different labs may have named them different things.
The most common test is TSH, or "thyroid stimulating hormone".
Then there is:
T4 or TT4 (thyroxine; total thyroxine)
Free T4 (free thyroxine; FT4)
T3 or TT3 (triiodothyronine; total triiodothyronine)
Free thyroxine index (FTI; FT7)
There are others, but TSH or some combination of those is what most MDs use as screening tests.
