Newly diagnosed - Hypo but confused!

Hello,
I was diagnosed with Hypo thyroid last week. TSH count 16.5. They put me on Armour.. 30mg a day. I have eaten us out of house & home and looking longingly at our cat & 2 dogs :0) Dying of heat... I can't sleep because the hunger pains are so bad. I started taking the Armour just this past Friday. I'll eat a full meal and 30 minutes later be so hungry it hurts.

What I am so confused about is that from what I have read.. Hypo-thyroid usually means you gain weight... I have lost so much weight the last few months it isn't funny... Then I read.. taking Armour will help you lose weight. I am so thin at this point that would not be a good thing. Has anyone else lost weight with Hypo verses gaining weight?

I am so confused by all of this, I just can't help but wonder if there is something else going on with my body.. you know??

Thanks for listening

Re: Newly diagnosed - Hypo but confused!

The armour will only make you lose excess weight that some people gain before their hypoT gets diagnosed.

Its not like an amphetamine that speeds up your metabolism it just regulates it by replacing the thyroid hormone that your body is unable to make.
taking too much will make you lose weight but you will have other symptoms of hyperT such as rapid heart rate, sweating, anxiety palpatations etc....

This is why it is important to have your bloods tested regularly whilst the dose that works for you is found. The ultimate goal is for you to be symptom free and your blood work showing that you have near as normal T3, T4 and Tsh levels that can be achieved by a hormone replacement.
best wishes
daisy
