Had the uptake scan today

Everything went pretty smooth. My next endo appoinment is Monday so I will find out exactly what the problem is.

The area I was in was open so I heard a lab tech and then I think a doctor talking to a woman and her husband. He was pretty much telling them that RAI treatment was a piece of cake, that it may make you hypo but that was much easier to treat than hyper, and talking about the damage hyper can do to your heart.

Well from reading posts here I know different.

Is hyper really harder to treat than hypo ?

Which posts here are the best to read up on the pros and cons of RAI ?

I plan to be as prepared as possible at my doctor visit if he suggests RAI.

I will also have an appointment with my regular doctor after this visit to discuss what is going on with me. He will be up front and honest about everything.

Hi Anna!

How is the uptake scan done exactly? Why did you do a uptake scan? Good luck with the results. I hope everything goes well for you.

Take Care,

Cindy

Re: Had the uptake scan today

Hi Cindy,

Actually it was two parts. I took two capsules the day before and then went back yesterday to have this done. The capsules had iodine in them. The point of this was to see how much iodine was staying in the thyroid. This tube like machine was held over my knee for a few minutes. The lab person said something about it was as close as they could get to the thyroid. Didn't make much since, maybe I didn't understand right.

The next part was taking pictures of my thyroid - 3 to be exact. This seem to take about ten minutes a piece.

I will have the results Monday of what is going on with my thyroid.

Hope everything is fine with you.

Anna
