It seems this is what I have after full surgical removal of thyroid. I am awaiting full nuclear bodyscan. Seems I may have been born this way and the ectopic thyroid may be hosting almost anywhere in my body. I am on no thyroxine meds yet still crazily hyperthyroid my original condition was benign multinodular goitre and severe thyroditis. Just wonderd if this has happened to anyone else and what was done and what was the outcome?Rozzi

what does this mean? your thyriod came back? I just had my thyroid removed 4 weeks ago and I had a beniegn multinodular thyroid with severe thyrioditis..why the body scan? did you end up having cancer??

I had a strip of thyroid still in my neck after removal. They said when one is a fetus, the thyroid is actually the tongue before it becomes your thyroid, so it wasn't uncommon to find a strip of thyroid high up in my neck.

In my case this made a difference because I had thyroid cancer and I had to ablate all thyroid tissue to prevent a recurrence.

I think you can have thyroid tissue anywhere in your chest or neck, and I think it can produce hormone wherever the cells may be.

Hi l was wondering if this may help... l kept searching for reasons why lm getting more and more hyper and l come across this sorry but spelling is probally wrong but you could do a search its a rare causes of hyoperthyroidism its where there is thyroid tissue in the ovaries strumii ovary if you have a good search about you will find some other rare causes too.. my hyperness is probally due to me been on block and replace so my levo is been stopped and will see what happens next good luck with everything x
