Question Why does TSH fluctuate despite taking meds?

Long thread...sorry.
In Jan my TSH was 9.+ and I was put on thyroxine 50mcg/day. Four months later TSH was 2.2 and doc increased my dose so that twice a week I took 100mcg/day in addition to the usual 50mcg/day. About two months ago I started feeling like I did in Jan and sure enough, this week the TSH was 8.5.
My questions: Why does the TSH fluctuate? Are there triggers?
While we wait for the TSH to come down and regardless of how we feel should we push ourselves, as though nothing is wrong or what?
I'd really appreciate to hear from you with experience what one should do or be doing!!
Thanks

Talking Re: Why does TSH fluctuate despite taking meds?

My TSH has never fluctuated to that degree. But it has gone from .98 to 1.78 taking the same type & amount of meds. I decided to start taking ALL my Cytomel in the morning, (my Dr never told me HOW to take it) so that occasional dose wouldn't be forgotten.

Maybe you should ask for Cytomel in conjunction with exsisting Synthroid? It surpresses TSH, & many MANY of us thy patients feel better when a T3 is added to our medicine. (I know I feel better on combo t4/T3)

Hope someone else has some better answers,
Sue
