TSH is a pituitary hormone. Its level can be well within normal range, but the actual thyroid hormones can be low. Those thyroid hormones need to be measured too... the "free" portions, not the totals. If these levels are in the bottom half of their ranges, they're technically "in range" but still too low. Most people have symptoms when THs are low. These tests are free T4 and free T3.
Thyroid antibodies tests are also useful... namely, anti-TPO and anti-Tg.
