? about subclinical hyperthyroidism
I'm new to the thyroid board and have a question I hope someone will be able to answer.
Here's what's going on:
During routine blood work in September my TSH levels came back slighly below the lab range. As far as I know, that's the first time it's ever been tested, so I don't have any idea how long it's been that way. My doctor didn't seem concerned, but he did suggest we retest in 3-6 months. I had the repeat blood work done last week and my TSH level was 0.35 (range 0.5 - 5) and my T4 was 10.2 (range 4.5 - 12). I'm not sure if that's my total T4 or free T4, but from what I could find, it lines up with common values for total. He didn't test anything else at this point. His diagnosis was slightly suppressed TSH, and high normal T4 - subclinical hyperthyroidism, retest in 6 months.
I don't have any major symptoms that I have ever associated with being hyper, actually I was stunned when I found out. The only things I have on the symptom list are trouble sleeping and rapid heart rate, and I've always just figured they was stress related. (I have 3 kids, am a full time student and my husband works out of town all week - so my stress level is generally pretty high.)
Do most people progress on to overt hyper, or do they just stay subclinical forever?
