Calcitonin Test............

Has anyone ever had this test?

I found out that after my Mother had her thyroid out for cancer ( type unknown at age 48) she was told not to eat dairy products and to stay away from calcium........she lived another 26 years without a problem.....

It was so many years ago who knows what the deal was........it was almost 45 years ago.....I cannot get the records...

But someone suggested to me to ask for this test.........has anyone had this test? I will ask the Endo tomorrow when I go......

Re: Calcitonin Test............

I did..
It was part of the pathology report when I had my thryoid removed.

It think it is a tumor marker for Medullary Thyroid cancer..

But if you still have a thyroid.. it really would not test any thing.

as far as the dairy products go.. i know when getting ready for Rai.. that you have to avoid Dairy and Iodine.. (go on a low iodine diet) for a couple weeks..

But weird that your mom got those recommendations.. my father also had thyroid cancer over 40 years ago... (i dont know what kinda either, and the records were burned) and he did not have the same recommendations.)

Re: Calcitonin Test............

I found out Calcitonin level will be elevated if you have Medullary Cancer.....sometimes...........even before you have your thyroid out.....

There are some articles on ******'s site............on the CEA and Calcitonin test and thyroidgobulin test as cancer markers before you have your thyroid removed........ I had the CEA test yesterday so we will see how that comes out and if I do end up having my thyroid out how accurate it was.........

we will be experts ..................Oleander
