Re: Am i A whimp??? thyroid surgery

I had a partial thryoidectomy several years ago. Though there was some pain, I recovered quickly and was back to work within a week of the surgery. I have not had a hysterectomy, but my kids were both delivered by c-section so I sort of know what that's like. To me, and I am no expert, but it seem that something has gone wrong for you with the thyroidectomy. Nine days post surgery, your scar should be healing well, and shortly it should be time for the stitches to come out. If I were you I think I would insist to see the doctor to get his opinion, you may have an infection that could be cleared up easily with antibiotics.

Good luck and hope you feel better very soon.

Re: Am i A whimp??? thyroid surgery

I have not had a thyroidectomy (yet). But as a medical person I have this advice..........

Puss + blood + reddness + pain = infection....... Call your Doctor.
Everyone is different and there has been some people on here that have had drains in place to take care of drainage. Not everyone has a smooth recovery..........But my advice is call your Doctor and let him decide if you need to be seen or if you need antibiotics.........

Let us know what happens...................Oleander

Re: Am i A whimp??? thyroid surgery

I had a TT about 16 days ago (June 25th) - I did have a rough time swallowing and felt like my throat was closed off some during the first week.

It felt like I had strep throat or something. I also had what felt like needing to cough up something but that passed after the first 10 days. I also had my parathyroids acting up the first week and had to take a ton of calcuim.

I didn't have a drainage tube and the doctor took the bandage off my neck the next day before I left the hospital. I had steri-strips until I saw him a week later. My incision site looked closed and GREAT from the time he pulled the bandage off.

Now you can see the scar but with the use of the silcone gel cream and scar therapy, it is fading daily.

I am NOT a medical expert but I have to agree anytime there is red around a cut place and/or pus, I don't think it is a sign of healing.

Hope you find out what is going on soon - I am so sorry you are having these troubles.

Please keep us posted,
Angie

I had a partial out on the 12th...and yes, feel kinda ugh, like a boot on my throat..but the cut place looks good, steristrips alittle swelling that is all.
I would def. have someone look at it.

Re: Am i A whimp??? thyroid surgery

Hi there lm 11 days post TT l have an 7 and half inch scar (which l thought was a 6 incher lol)it is healing fantastic!!! l do ahve some spots which look like they havnt quite met and theres a bit of pus looking stuff but lm ok with it unless it gets worse lm still red too but the staple marks have nearly all gone. I had 17 staples and l had drains and a few stitches. My throat at times still feels like someone is standing on it, it isnt sore to swallow anymore and the stiff neck has almost gone apart from looking upwards which si still tight. Im getting bouts where it feels like my throat is really tight. My upper chest is sore and aches at times l guess the muscle and nerves which were cut are starting to heal which is why l can now feel the pain l still have alot of numbness too. BUT l feel alot better than l did before!!! l do have to have naps but l cant expect anything else after having surgery. I guess we are all different and heal differently if your worried contact your nurse. The district nurse here left me her number which l can ring 24/7 and will if l have to. Good luck with your recovery xxx and everyone else whose in the same boat

Re: Am i A whimp??? thyroid surgery

THANK YOU ALL FOR REPLYING!! And I did call docor: heres the scoop: Was told as long as thes isnt significant swelling, hot spot on scar (warm to touch) its probably just more drainage. Well the first thought I was allergic to ingrdient in Neosporin antibiotic ointment, so a new cream was prescribed to me. Whenever I took a shower or put ointment on my throught would oooze and ooze, well the new ointment made no diiference, I put it on now 2 days last night my throught was oozing outta 2 spots, this morn I took a shower and 4 differnt spots were oozing thick yellowish blood tinged gross stuff. So even though it s saturday I called. Hers that update "my body must be rejecting the stitches!!!!" have you heard of such a thing??? so in a matter of speaking im allergic to the stitches???

So there it is, he did say to call if I have pain and see me on monday if no better. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR RESPONSES!!!!
