Hypothyroid: Can't tolerate hot or cold temps + belly fat Q

I have low temp (97.4 upon waking) and low BP (80-90/ 55), and low heart rate (sometimes as low as 45 beats per minute), constipation, serious fatigue, and depression. I'm not really overweight but have been getting an accumulation of fat in my belly. I'm getting drowsy during the day and HAVE to sleep. This would indicate that I'm hypothyroid, I would think. I don't have the other thyroid symptoms, like course skin, etc. (My blood tests were in the normal range till I started low dose Armour, which resulted in the t3 going too low. )

However, the cold doesn't bother me nearly as much as heat. I really have to have the temperature just right, not too hot, not too cold... can't really deal with extremes of temperatures either way... I like it right around 68 to 70, anything outside of that, I start feeling miserable. But heat bothers me much more than cold. Does anyone else with hypothyroid have this? Is is possible the hypothyroid and have the heat be more of a problem than cold? As long as my arms are covered, I don't usually get that cold.

Also, is this recent accumulation of belly fat likely to be caused by hypothyrodism? I'm 47 y/o, and generally tend to be slender to normal weight, but I do watch what I eat. Is the new belly fat just from aging, or could the hypothyroidism cause this?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Hypothyroid: Can't tolerate hot or cold temps + belly fat Q

What you describe sounds like adrenal fatuque and hypothyroidism.

The adrenal glands help your body adjust to stress, like enviromental changes... temperature change (and all kinds of stresses from sudden danger to confrontations to physical pain, etc).

The adrenals also try to compensate for the stress of being hypothyroid and they will secrete too much at first and then get pooped and secrete too little. That is when you get the symptoms from adrenal insufficeincy & it is a chain reaction from un-diagnosed or under-treated hypothyroidism.

What meds are you on now?
What dose?
How long at that dose?

Re: Hypothyroid: Can't tolerate hot or cold temps + belly fat Q

I started on Armour Thyroid about 3 years ago, and never could get above 7.5 mg (1/8 grain) per day without getting symptoms that were similar to agina (chest, shoulder & jaw pain). My thyroid blood tests were normal prior to starting the Armour, but after taking the Armour, my t3 fell below normal. I just started taking Cytomel (2.5 mcg) yesterday to get the t3 back to normal range.

Prior to taking the Armour, I had most of the symptoms noted above, but after taking the Armour, I gradually had daytime drowsiness, worsening of belly fat, and depression.

Re: Hypothyroid: Can't tolerate hot or cold temps + belly fat Q

I can't help any with the hypothyroid aside from sympathise. I only recently started treatment for this and haven't noted any difference after seven weeks (seeing my gp to discuss latest labs tomorrow). I also have a hard time with temperature, getting easily cold in the winter and overheating rather quickly in warmer weather. My husband has often said it's hard to keep me in comfort.

Anyway, I hope you can find some answers and start feeling better.
