I had my thyroid removed in the last few days of November 07. For some reason I went hyper right after the surgery(TSH 0.05). My surgeon told me to stop taking my synthroid and do the bloodwork in 3 weeks. And so I did , but now my TSH is 11.68. I feel very tired and have low energy. Can TSH this high be in any way dangerous to my health? I started taking my regular dosage of synthroid back and waiting for the doctor call today. I only spoke to the nurseabout my results last night. Thanks
Many people have a high TSH who aren't properly treated and have thyroid problems. It isn't good for you to not treat it of course. And people are effected differently by a given TSH level. I would be extremely concerned if my doctor told me not to take any thyroid medicine if I didn't even have a thyroid. If a person is severly low on thyroid hormones they can go into a coma.
