Can you feel it when you swallow? (Large nodules)

I've probably asked this before but it's REALLY freaking me out. (Reese...you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this stuff...i think you've answered this before)
I have a huge 4.7 nodule. I've had now 4 doctors tell me all my discomfort is from the nodule and once it's out I'll feel better.
It makes sense but I'm SO scared it's something else. I'm a non-smoker and rarely drink so the chances of it being something actually in the throat are small but I'm TERRIFIED and can't stop shaking.
Basically I feel a lump in the throat...I can feel stuff go down when I swallow. Someone please remind me that it's probably the size of the nodule and it's pressing on stuff. I told my GI doctor this and he wasn't concerned. I'm having an endocopy on Thurs. and he says he's pretty sure he won't find anything but for my peace of mind he'll do it.
ANYONE.....help.

Re: Can you feel it when you swallow? (Large nodules)

If you think about a thyroid being about 4cm, more or less, and you have something about that size growing on yours, and squished in your neck, you can definitely feel it---there are muscles and structures in there being smushed up against your throat, that could be what you're feeling.

Re: Can you feel it when you swallow? (Large nodules)

My nodule is only 1 cm^3 and I feel it constantly taunting me on the right lower side. Pain in the neck.. okay vented. Yes the nodule is most likely the culprit along with an inflamed and enlarged thyroid. I feel the most difference in my vocal capabilities.. one I am hoarse more often than not and two I can not sing as i once did with out making my throat hurt worse. So I could shut up I guess.. but why should I have to? I like singing and interacting with my peers and family. i am not from a quiet group so i will talk and live with it. I go to see my ENT in Februaury. After that he will arrange a biopsy and we will see where to go from there. Currently I have been on my starting dose of synthroid for two weeks and my hypoT symptoms are back in force. I would be fine with getting my thyroid pulled. however i am thinking unless the biopsy comes back abnormal that we are going to do teh wait and see if the meds shrink it dance.

I am sorry that you have a node causing such angst. I hope that the Mds can give you the treatment and relief you deserve.

Sincerely,
MG

Re: Can you feel it when you swallow? (Large nodules)

At last check, my nodule was 3.2 cm and yes, I can feel it. We're just watching it, because there doesn't seem to be any reason to take it out. My levels are fine and I feel fine most of the time.

Re: Can you feel it when you swallow? (Large nodules)

Gosh... my nodule is 5cm and I can't feel it at all... you can see it if you look closely, but my friends have to be shown to believe me... I posted separately yesterday about why to remove the darn thing if I can't feel it and I have no symptoms that I know of. I suppose some of the irritations I feel because I'm 54 could be related, but it appears that the troubles with regulating the thyroid meds are a lot worse than anything I can imagine. I am a teacher, and I couldn't imagine losing my voice or being really tired every day... being disorganized and brain dead wouldn't work for me either...! New ultrasound in February to see if it's growing more... will wait and see here, too.

What's this about taking medication to see if it will shrink? Does that ever really happen?
