Salivary Gland Problems and Hashimoto's

Does anyone here have hashimoto's and salivary gland problems? I have had recurrent swelling of the salivary glands and have seen two oral/maxillofacial specialists. The first doctor said it does not appear to be cancer and if it changes in any way then see a doctor again. Well, the swelling of the gland comes and goes so I went for another opinion and the oral surgeon said come back and we can remove the bump. But doing further research I now see that maybe this is connected to an autoimmune situation. The swelling occurs on a weekly basis- is not painful at all. Results in a blister and then is gone. From what I have read it could be antibodies attacking the salivary gland. Does anyone have anything like this ???? and if so, how was it dealt with???
I wanted to add that this first just occured on one side--on the left tonsillar pillar-the area between the upper and lower jaw about an inch farther back than the last molar. Now it has started to occur on the right side in exactly the same place. I am just wondering about the salivary gland issue or could this be tonsil tags ( left over tissue from when tonsils were removed.)?The doctors whom I have seen have not narrowed it down at all.

Re: Salivary Gland Problems and Hashimoto's

I have Hashi's as well. My antibodies are high and I have all sorts of wierd issues as a result. My antibodies branched out to attack my spinal fluid pressure levels and heart rhythm and blood pressure and my optic nerve and vision.. but I have been so bothered in these areas I have not paid attention to lumps in my mouth. My nodule and thyroid constantly aches.. I have gotten periodic lumps or blisters inside my mouth.. almost like.. humm.. Large zits? These I just attributed to virus interaction or something like that. I will keep my eyes open and ask my ENT next time I see him what he thinks. It could be a few months... because my nextr appointment is June. I have a very good dentist I can ask. I see him later this month.

Re: Salivary Gland Problems and Hashimoto's

MKG-Thank you for responding! It has seemed so weird and this whole hashi's attack stuff is getting to me.
About the bumps in your mouth--are you getting these in the same place/s all the time? For the last two years it had been always on the left side in one place. Past 6 months occassionally on the right side but in the same place. I think I know what you mean about like a zit. The bump raises and then just bursts-I am not aware when it bursts- then it is just gone. The cycle from bump starting to gone may take about a day or a day and a half. Is this how yours goes? On the size, it goes to about the size of a small lentil and shaped like a lentil too. I look forward to hearing what you dentist, and ent have to say. I will see the rheum next week and the ENT probably within the next few weeks. I will let you know what they have to say.
Is your bump action like mine? Also where are they occuring?

Re: Salivary Gland Problems and Hashimoto's

Come to think of it.. yes. It normally cycles about the week of my period, when I am most hypoT and last just a few days. *snort* Just one more thing to evaluate and study. Glad I like experiments. Makes seeing myself as one genetic dysfunctional experiment kinda interesting. Like what will happen next? SO far it is annoying and inconvienent nothing life threatening. I am hoping like my heart issues, as my FT3 and Ft4 levels return to optimal under medication I am hoping this stuff will stop. We shall see. I will have to ask my Hashi's/Graves mom and aunts if they have similiar issues. I know they have complained of mouth ulcers.. I wonder if it is the saliva glands on them? Okay we will have to keep each other posted on our findings.

Re: Salivary Gland Problems and Hashimoto's

MKG- is it one bump or more that you get?And is it always in the same place/s?My bumps are painless.
The bump issue would always get bumped to the bottom of the listwhen I saw a doc because my thryoid levels and osteoporosis always took center stage. But I want to get to the bottom of this as it has been going on over 2 yrs on at least a weekly cycle if not more. I am for sure thinking autoimmune now and will absolutely let you know what I learn.
