COQ-10 and Hypothyroidism

Currently, I am taking Naicine (500 MG) for chlorestrol, Fish oil for Triglicerides, and 25 mg Thyroid (Levothyroxine) and Rexall Q-Sorb 300 Mg CoQ-10. Question: Is all this stuff good for me to be taking?

Re: COQ-10 and Hypothyroidism

I take 75 mcg of Synthroid, Nexium, zyrtec, decongestant/expectorant prescriptions meds daily right now:
Plus
Ca 1000 mg Daily
Mg 400 mg BID
Fish Oil 1200 with EPA, DHA, DHEA
Super B complex with all the B vitamins
Multivitamin

Humm think that is all of the supplements... Oh *grimaces* Iron too.
I tested low in many concentrations because of my thyroid functions improper metabolism. As long as you monitor your blood chemistry every 3 months and make sure not to take any supplements with in 8 hours before or four hours after your Synthroid all should be fine. Anything in particular bothering you?

Re: COQ-10 and Hypothyroidism

MKG-Hi! I just noticed in your listing of supplements that you did not mention selenium. It may however be in your multi. What do you think of the research done on hashi's antibodies and selenium. I know that you have indicated you have high TPO antibodies. When I was diagnosed my TPO were 2500 , now some 15 months later on treatment 75mcg synthroid, they are half that, 1250 but still that is high. I thought maybe the selenium did lower the antibodies , but maybe it was the treatment or both. My multi contains 200 mcg (as Amino Acid Chelate Selenomethionine).
Glenn-Thyroid for Dummies has a good discussion about drugs incl. vitamins and minerals that affect your thyroid meds. And good general discussion about vitamins as well. Do you have hashi's? If so, you might want to look at selenium.

Re: COQ-10 and Hypothyroidism

Yes my multivitamin has Selenium in it. I was taking it when my antibodies jumped from 284/286 to 1695/169. I do not know if it will help in the long run, but I hope it does and so i take it.

Re: COQ-10 and Hypothyroidism

MKG-Thanks for the selenium info. One other question I had that I wanted to ask you was about cognitive functioning. Just because one has hashimoto's it wouldn't mean that you are going to have diminished cognitive functioning would it? Since diagnosis and treatment I haven't seemed like my old self. Also there is a member of my extended family who has hashi's and others refer to her unkindly as "not all there" . It really ticked me off to hear this! Now it may be that my cousin is on other meds that perhaps space her out. Anyway, please tell me this diagnosis is not sentencing one to sub par mental performance. Thanks.

Re: COQ-10 and Hypothyroidism

I have been lacking in concentration and focus.. but it is due to too low T4 concentrations. Hashi's doesn't destroy the brain. Hypothyroidism as a side effect impairs the metabolic transport in the brain making you not quite right. Once you get your hormones balanced and optimized you are back to your old self. I have 2 Masters and am working toward a Ph.D. I do not think my brain has been swiss cheesed. I do feel my ability to focus and concentrate has suffered greatly. Now I have started meds. Things are beginning to refocus and clarify again. When your T4 is too low it is like fighting through a constantly half awake state. When the T3 gets to low.. your muscles, joints, and body suffers. This is just personal opinion and observation in my case. Others speak up how treatment has helped you!
