Angry Acute Thyroiditis - Does anyone have it ??

I had a thyroid scan done on Monday and I only just got back my results from my doctor.
Apparently what I have is acute thyroiditis.

The symptoms are fever, aching bones, racy palse, head aches. It almost feels like you have the flu but not as bad.

Apparently these symptoms will disappear after a few weeks.

Has anyone out there been diagnosed with this and if so what sort of symptoms did you have and how long did it take before they went away.

I have an appointment next wednesday morning with an Endo to see what she thinks.

Thumbs up Re: Acute Thyroiditis - Does anyone have it ??

I allegedly had this. I say allegedly because my GP never even touched my thyroid, my severe symptoms were over when I finally saw an endo, and 8 months later my GYN told me this is what I had. The hyper symptoms lasted three weeks for me. I also had a sore throat, brain fog, my fever was only low grade, a quick 7-lb. weight loss in three weeks while eating a lot, anxiety, memory problems, and elevated BP. After three weeks the symptoms just sputtered. At about six weeks I started noticing hair loss, quickly gained weight back. It has been two years and I have never felt "normal". I feel much better than when the whole episode started but seem to go back and forth with the fatigue and really having to watch my weight, to the other end of the spectrum, where I seem to be now, having anxiety, higher pulse rate, and can be more liberal with my diet . The hair loss is driving me crazy because while I am losing it, it is also growing fast which means I have all this uneven growth. I think most people do better overall with an acute thyroiditis and the symptoms usually completely go away. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Acute Thyroiditis - Does anyone have it ??

Just to be sure it isn't Graves or early hashimoto's thyroiditis. You should have your MD run the Autoimmune thyroid antibody tests.

TSI and TRAb are the lab codes for Graves Disease and TPOAb and TGAb are the lab codes for hashimoto's thyroiditis. It is important to diagnose and treat these as quickly as possible.

Good luck to you. If it is just acute thyroiditis it will go away eventually.. if it is one of the AITs.. your in it for the long haul.

Re: Acute Thyroiditis - Does anyone have it ??

I was told I had this in Oct 06. I had alot of pain in my neck (back of neck) and thought I hurt my neck or something. Then when i saw my doc he noticed the huge lump in the the front of my throat and said it was my thyroid. (It was so swollen it was causing me to have trouble turning my head) I have never been the same since. I have had lots of test done and all have come back normal. I feel like I have good days and days i hurt all over since then and now got dig with fibro. Funny how the FIBRO started after my Acute Thyrioditis. I would say to follow your intincts. If you do not feel better make them do bloodwork and don't let them dismiss how your feeling. Hopefully it will go away within a couple of weeks!! (I really hope for you!!)
