I am pretty sure I am having symptoms of an underactive thyroid (sleep problems, fluttering heart when lying down, dry skin, often feel cold, thinning hair, fatigue, irregular periods), but every time I get blood drawn for testing, it always comes back normal. The doctor(s) have always run tests for TSH levels, but I am wondering if there is a more reliable test that could be done? I am going to see my GYN next Tuesday and I am planning on asking him to check my hormone levels and my thyroid function. What can I ask for in addition to looking at my TSH level?
Underactive thyroid runs in my family, so I am at risk for this. My dad, mom, and 2 of my sisters have it. One of them developed it at the tender age of 23.
If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it.
