Med question: when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel )?
when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel ) and you do your lab work.
after how many hours of taking it can you measure the highest level in the blood. I thought it peaks after 3 hours and than it declines but not sure ?
I know it has a half life of 10 hours but was wondering when it hits the high point.
Thank you !!!

Re: Med question: when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel )?
T4 reaches peak levels within 2 to 4 hours and remain high for 6 hours.
The peak level of T3 is hit within 2 to 4 hours following the dose. I'm unsure how long it remains high, but it wouldn't be as long as 6 hours, I'm fairly sure.
You don't necessarily want to dose according to those peaks, however. They give a false picture of the actual cellular levels, and can keep an MD from increasing the dose when it's needed. What's your reason for wanting to know?

Re: Med question: when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel )?
I couldn't go to the lab early in the morning so I took my Armour and got my labs done in the afternoon.
I know you shouldn't take it that day but couldn't wait that long.
Thank you Midwest !!

Re: Med question: when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel )?
On my last FT3 test I took my Armour 15mg in the morning 3 hours after I gave blood.
My FT3 was 3.2 ( 2.3-4.2 ) I want my doctor to add another 15 mg in the evening, also take 50mcg of Levo
my FT4 level is 1.46 (0.61-1.76)
I wanted to make sure I am not getting too much T3 by adding the 15mg of Armour.
I had new labs done today and I will get my new results on Monday.
I was going to ask him to decrease my Levo to 37.5mcg and approve my 15mg increase in Armour.
I think my FT4 looks pretty good but my FT3 could use a small increase ?
He is pretty open minded and will work with me to get my levels right.

Re: Med question: when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel )?
The Cytomel will probably cost you oodles more than Armour. If it were me, and if the Armour was doing the job, I wouldn't want to spend the money on Cytomel.
But then.... I'm cheap.

Re: Med question: when you take T3 ( Armour or Cytomel )?ed question
My FT3 was 3.2 ( 2.3-4.2 ) - [3.2 - 2.3]/[4.2-2.3]*100 = 47.4% You could use a bit more here.
I want my doctor to add another 15 mg in the evening, also take 50mcg of Levo
my FT4 level is 1.46 (0.61-1.76) You are at 73.9% here. This is a good range. Boosting the Armour is a good idea. You may end up having to do more Armour and less Synthroid in the end.. Adding the Armour and watching for 4 weeks is a good idea.
Sincerely,
MG
