Adrenal testing and doctors.

It took me a long time to find a doctor who is willing to treat my thyroid disease even with "normal" levels. But she won't test my adrenal function using a 24 hour saliva test. I explained that I'm concerned my adrenals are depleted and preventing me from getting better. I've had my adrenals tested using a blood test but I've read that isn't sufficient.

Have any of you had success convincing your doctor to give you a saliva adrenal test? How did you do it? Is it really necessary? I'm afraid it will keep me from getting better since I've been sick for many years. Thanks for the help.

David

Re: Adrenal testing and doctors.

I just told mine I wanted a 24 hour cortisol rhythm test (salive or urine) in addition to the blood cortisol and ACTH test. It is an 80 dollar test. If my insurance didn't cover it.. I would.. My insurance covered it and I paid $2 dollars for it. Tell her you want a 24 hour profile of your cortisol cycle. Tell her it is for fatigue management and to please humor you. If it is normal.. that will be the end of it. Otherwise if she doesn't write the script.. make weekly visits for fatigue management.
