I've always been sensitive to bright lights (part of a vertigo problem), but lately it's really bothering me. Where I work they have flueorescent lights, and after a while it makes me nauseous. Now I've noticed that looking at white paper and yellow highlighter is bothering me. Ugh.
Having an off thyroid can definitely make a person sensitive to bright lights. Sometimes the thought crosses my mind to wear sunglasses at night when I'm driving. The contrast between the darkness and the headlights hurt my eyes.
Photophobia is a common symptom of hyperthyroidism. I've got a lightning fast arm jerk reflex that gets triggered by those little pen lights the docs shine in your eyes. I can really make those pens fly. David, they make special night glasses that reduce the glare. But if you guys are having a lot of trouble, an eye exam would be a smart move because other things than the thyroid can cause it.
Yes, I have amber lens glasses to cut the glare. I can wear them at night as well. Dry eyes and light sensitivity are very come thyroid dysfunction symptoms.
