Re: What are the newest blood lab guidelines for thyroid issues?
There are new guidelines for thyroid lab values and when to be considered having a problem. I believe the guidelines were updated in 2005. MKGBROOK is a very knowledgable poster on here. I know I read a recent post they had in regard to the updated guidelines.
You can do an advanced search on these healthboards with their name and see if you can locate the thread that has all of the information in it.
Re: What are the newest blood lab guidelines for thyroid issues?
The American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), the nation's largest organization of thyroid specialists, changed the guidelines for TSH tests in 2002.
Now AACE encourages doctors to consider treatment for patients who test outside the boundaries of a narrower margin based on a target TSH level of 0.3 to 3.0.
Even though the changes were supposed to be effective in 2002, many big name labs have not updated their ranges to meet the new guidelines. The old TSH ranges were 0.40-5.50. Check your copy to see what ranges are listed.
