Advice on my doctor, symptoms and doses please!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice again...

These are my recent test results.

Free T4 10.7 (10.00 - 24.00)

T.S.H. 5.3 (0.4 - 5.5)

I was taking 50mcg of thyroxine at the time of these test results.

I went to the doctor he says great your levels are fine....

I told him I was suffering from muscle pain and aches in my legs to the point that by the end of the day I could barely move,
the fact that my throat feels really dry and uncomfortable,
tired, the rash on my forarm was getting worse again...

He checks me over, says you have a virus...thats why you have these symptoms.

He told me this eight weeks ago when I was there also and mention my throat feeling dry and strange, and I dont feel like I have a virus!

I mentioned how this happens to my throat on and off.
It may be fine for a couple of weeks then go weird again.
Some mornings it's fine and by the afternoon I have people asking if I have a cold or flu.....am I the only one who sometimes says yes to people you don't really know very well

Basically when he realized I was about to burst into tears,
because like a lot of you can understand I just want them to listen to me.

He says.. oh well, we'll try 75mcg then....100mcg one day ..50mcg the next.

So this is the third dose change I've had and I'm beginning to feel headachy again.
I'm wondering if that is a "normal" reaction it changing the dose...it's only been two weeks.

I can walk again and even vaccuum without crying
So I am much happier really!

Hubby thinks I should look for another doctor,
but it has taken me 18 months to find one that beleived there was something wrong with me....I'm confused really.

Thank you for your help and sharing your experiences with me,
Mother bear.

Look at this post. It mainly has US limits and such for normal ranges.. but the theory and information is sound.

You need a Ft3 or T3 test run as well. You may be imbalanced and need T3 supplementation not more T4.. but your T4 levels are SOOO low in range you need more. However if you are overconverting T4 to t3... then adding T4 will drive you hypert while still being hypoT in T4. It is not an easy fix. But we can help you. Get that MD to run an Ft3, T3 Uptake, and RT3. Depending on the results we may need to add ACTH and Cortisol and Aldosterone testing.

Do you have Hashimoto's per chance?
If you do not know you need TPOAb testing AND in addition you need an ultrasound of that thyroid. I bet you have Hashimoto's and nodule formation. Depending on how the MD receives the information in that post I pointed you too. You may need a new MD.

Re: Advice on my doctor, symptoms and doses please!!!!

Thank you mkgbrook, your an angel

I've been reading though the thread lots of excellent info there!

I read Thyroid for Dummies and everything else I can lay my hands on but I still feel a little unsure if I know anything at all

I have jotted down the tests to request or politely demand
Depending on my doc's attitude!

Thanks again,

Mother bear.
