I read somewhere that if you have hypothyroidism that you shouldn't take antihistamines. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone know what negative effects antihistamines could have on a person with hypothyroidism or Hashimotos. I'm not on medications if that factors in your answer.
The labels on cold and sinus products warn against taking them if you have "thyroid disease". They aren't specific about exactly which thyroid disease because so many people are confused about which particular thyroid disorder they have. It's a case of "dumbing down" the instructions to protect the population at large.
The warning is primarily for hyperthyroidism, not hypo. That's because the products can significantly raise pulse rate and blood pressure, two conditions that hyperT folks can already have and certainly don't need to exacerbate.
Of course, no one with high BP and pulse rate should be taking these medicines, not just hyperT patients.
Well That is what landed me in hospital and has thrown me off. MY MD says DO NOT TAKE THEM. The allergies/sinus/whatever will not kill me so UNLESS my thyroid is in good total control...DO NOT TOUCH.....
There are nasal spray with just saline. Saline spray should be fine IMO I avoid everything. The ER doctors if I have to go in....I check with my gp before i fill anything or take it...just because of the bad reaction to a med an ER doc gave me.
