| conversion from Armour to T4/T3 combo
Hello,
I'm new here and have a question.
I've been on Armour for over a year, and just saw my doctor about
changing to synthroid and time-released T3. There's just too much T3
in Armour for me, i have adrenal problems. But even taking cortef does
not allow me to take enough Armour, or to feel good on it. Nuff said
on that.
My question is, how to transition from the armour to the T4/T3tr combo.
Doctor gave me a prescription for both, but according to the
calculations he's given me way less of this combo than the equivalent armour i was on.
was on Armour= 2.5 gr.
was told to take, and was given
T4= 75mg/day (50 mg tabs)
T3tr= .10mcg/day (.5mcg caps, 1 every 12 hrs)
This works out to the equivalent of about 1.14 gr Armour, by my
calculations on the site, which is way less than the 2.5 i've been
taking. And a ratio of about 7:1 T4:T3, rather than Armour's 4.22:1.
This new ratio is fine, i wanted it higher T4.
The doctor gave me no instructions, besides "take this much", so i
don't know if he mis-calculated or whether he's starting me lower, or
what. Do I need to start low if i'm already on a different thyroid
med? He's fine with me adjusting the ratio of T4 to T3, that's the
purpose of getting them separately. I haven't been able to get hold of
the doctor to answer my questions.
I started yesterday by taking the prescribed dose, but i mistakenly
took the whole .10 mcg of T3 at once, which felt like too much T3.
Even though that was less T3 than I'm getting in armour every day.
Perhaps the time-release wasn't working so well?
Has anyone here made this transition, and if so, how did you do it?
I could really use some knowledgeable advice,
NJ
