LisaBob-You and I have the same %$#@ going on. Hashi's, sjogren's extremely dry eye. I haven't had TT yet but probably in the next few months. Anyway, yes I have read that the flaxseed is a no no because it is goitrogenic. Now regarding the fish oil--I have been taking omega 3 for about 2 years. And, this was recommended to me by two opthamologists incl. one at Mayo. Also by my pcp. My lipid profile is excellent--I wonder how much of this has to do with the fish oil. But....until I had both upper and lower tear ducts plugged, I did not get dry eye relief.I had the lower plugs in first for about 8 months and also used restasis. My rheum referred me to a corneal specialist who did the rose bengal test and I had significant ocular abrasion from the dry eye so I had to get the upper ducts plugged too. My eyes feel so much better now it is a huge difference. I don't have to use any drops during the day, and am going to do a trial discontinuation of the restasis in a week. Yes, I will get some overflow tears at times but it is such a huge improvement that it is no big deal. A significant redness that I had and irritated looking eyes that was there for years is just gone now.
What I am saying is if you do have sjogren's and significant dry eye and hashi's can cause dry eye and skin conditions too--be sure to get the rose bengal test. My previous opth. didn't do this and thought I was doing relatively ok--but the test showed significant abrasion.
The omega 3 is also an anti inflammatory which is great for us with the autoimmune stuff going on --be sure to get omega 3 that is pure. I use nordic naturals liquid fish oil-and I like it soo much better than the capsules which they make too--never was sure the capsules broke down in digestive system. The oil is lemon flavored and not gaggy or fishy at all and cheaper than the capsules. And the product is from Norway with really high purity standards.
Sorry to hear all that you are going through too-it is a tough road all this AI stuff.Be sure to protect your eyes. The Rose Bengal test will show immediately whether you have abrasion to the surface of your eyes and will tell what measure you need to take.Let me know how it goes. While we cannot change alot, it seems there are at least a few things we can get improvement on...the thing is not to give up.
