Hi, I'm from the anemia board, but thought I'd ask you all if low ferritin could be a thyroid issue. Doctors can not find a cause for my low ferritin except for heavier periods. My tsh tests have been fluctuating over the past year.

Is it normal for tsh to fluctuate or is this frequently seen in someone who has a thyroid that is going hypo/hyper?

Here are my test results...thanks for any advice or comments.

Feb 2008 tsh 2.7
March 2008 tsh 3.41 (felt bad during this time with anxiety)
June 2008 tsh 1.7 (feeling better)

March 2008 thyroglobulin AB <20.0 thryroid peroxidase AB <10.0

March 2008 Free T4 1.4 (range .7-1.8)
T3 125 (range 94-170

hi littlebunnyfoo - just thought i'd bump up this post as someone must be able to help.

I'm not sure what the "AB" stands for where your antibodies results are.

I was diaganosed first with low ferritin but still felt run down no matter how much iron I took. Plus my levels never got to the 70-90 range. I found out later that my T4 was low/normal (1.1) and was put on Synthroid-I'm starting to not be exhausted anymore. I'd push to see an endo so I think the ferritin is connected to the thyroid.

Dawn80 - that is such a common story, yet even Endo's will fob you off saying your results look too good to medicate.

On the topic of Endo's, i thought ALL Endo's were qualified to deal with thyroid issues and that that was their field. It's only recently i found out they are mostly better versed in dealing with diabetes and some only know the very basics of thyroid issues. That is a bit scary. No wonder so many people are getting the run around

Yes, the endo I saw was well versed in diabetes.
