I thought all my freakyess was because i am going through the change of life. about a week ago i had a ultra sound showing lesions on my thyroid. for years i have been suffering from depression. i am on fluoxetine 40 mg. which really just keeps me awake at night. still pretty spazzy. i am smoking like freight train and eating like a HOG. I am sooo scard of CANCER!! In 2 weeks i will see a specialist. sometimes i don't if i can wait that long. Can anyone give me any hope with this?? will i remain CRAZY like this??
Settledown, I have just gone though what you are going through. I was sitting at work, went to itch my neck and noticed a hugh lump. I went to my doctor the next day who immediately ordered a CT scan, that showed a 3.5cm leision that was covering the left lobe of my thyrod and pressing on my trachea. I HAD NO OTHER SYMPTONS AND ALL & MY THYROID TESTS WERE NORMAL. I went to a specialist that explained to me that 95% of all leisions are benign. He went ahead and did a fine need biopsi on the lump, and also explained to me that the biopsis are not 100% accurate. At that time, I chose to have a partial thyrodiactomy, even though the biopsi came back benign. Since mine was already 3.5cm and they worry about cancer when then hit 4.0, I had the surgery to remove my entire left lobe of my thyroid. Well as of today Thursday 3 days after surgery which was done on Monday the 11th, the surgery was not bad and I am feeling fantastic, best decision I ever made. I am 47 and have also gone though the change of life, so I know exactly what you are feeling. Please settle yourself down, the odds are on your side, remember 95% of all lesions are benign. Hope this helped for you...
Try to relax. Many of us have been in the same situation as you, and the majority of us have had benign nodules. Even if it did come back as cancer (with the odds being very very low) then it is extremely treatable.
Seriously...nothing to freak out about. Hang around here as you're in good company

i guess i sound like a nut. i am going through the change at the same time . been having a rough time with that, my mother did too. i can whine all i want. but it won't make it any easier to wait. so i will read everyone's post. and try to cool it
Same thing happened to me 7 years ago. Going through menopause with horrible hot flashes and mood swings, and then I tested hyperthyroid and they saw a nodule. The nodule was benign and in the 7 years since the first one was found, another one popped up, also benign. Try and relax and remember your chances that yours is not cancer are much, much higher than that it is cancer. Also a doctor told my husband that this time of life is when thyroid problems usually start. It's very, very common. The great majority of issues are becoming slightly hypoactive and that is easily taken care of with a low dose of synthroid. Try to stay calm and relaxed. Stressing yourself out is never good for you.
May i ask what were some symptoms you all were having? before you found out what it was. I having memory problems, sometimes i can't find the right words. it is hard to concentrate. Not sleeping well. I feel just not right. i thought it could be a sugar problem. that is why i had the blood work done. But that is good.
