Pei

Has anyone had percutaneous ethanol injection for a large benign cyst? If so, what was it like? I had one done a few hours ago and it's already back up to about the same size. I know it takes weeks to go down, but I'm wondering if swelling up so fast is normal or affects prognosis? thanks!

Re: Pei

Where is the cyst? I read that there can be blood in a cyst in the Thyroid. In that case, perhaps what ever is causing the blood to be there in the first place is still a problem. Fam

Re: Pei

My husband has had a few of those, but don't recall him talking about swelling. He just mention that it burns for about a day.

Re: Pei

Thanks. So, with a little swelling I probably don't have those. Cysts. :>)

Re: Pei

I found out the swelling is normal and it's starting to shrink!

Eagle, I originally found the cyst because I felt some swelling on the right side of my thyroid/bottom of my neck when I was pregnant. The cyst has continued to grow until the recent pei procedure. It could be a cyst--the ultrasound will tell you for certain. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone!

Re: Pei

Thanks. My swelling seems to have gone down, at least on one side, and I'm going to ask the doctor what else could cause a slight swelling on the other side that seems a little too high up to be thyroid. I'm delaying about the Ultrasound because I'm wary of the tracer radiation. Ultrasound for other things than thyroid doesn't require any, in my experience, and I just recently found out the thyroid scan does. I'm waiting for my antibodies report and to see if the swelling may go down.

Re: Pei

a thyroid scan requires a radioactive tracer, but a regular ultrasound does not. They could just do a regular ultrasound to take a peek and see what's going on with the swelling. My cyst was distinguishable as a cyst (round and swollen) prior to the ultrasound which confirmed it.
