I am new to this board, and also new to these thyroid problems that I have been having. About 6 weeks ago I felt a lump on my throat, went to my GP the next day, and he ordered an ultrasound for that week. Ultrasound tech says, wow, that's a big cyst on your thyroid! He says it's over 4cm, and I have 2 more small cysts on the other side as well as 2 nodules. So about 3 1/2 weeks ago I got the cyst drained (28cc's of fluid!) and the largest nodule biopsied on the other side. The Endo tells me the results are not conculsive, and that I need another biopsy (She says that there are worrisome terms in the biopsy report
About a week after the cyst was drained, I felt a small lump on that side again. Sure enough, the cyst is coming back. This past weekend my neck was hurting because of how big it's gotten. Today, I am so uncomfortable, I told my hubby that if I can't get into the doctor's tomorrow or the next day the latest, he's going to have to take me to the emergency room to have this thing drained, because it's choking me! I measured it today with a tape measure, and from the outside, it measures 8cm! My Endo is going to think that I'm a nut for not calling her sooner, but I didn't expect it to get so big so fast. I was also trying to hold off going back to see her because I wanted to try a thyroid specialist in my area, but the appointment is not until Sept. 16th. There's no way I can wait that long, at least to drain the cyst.
So, does anyone know out there if thyroid cysts can burst, and if they can, and if there are any cancer cells in that cyst, can they spread throughout your body? Yes, I do know that the chance of cancer is very small, but with how large this thing is getting, it's got me freaked out.
