I have been posting all my woes and tribulations latley with my suspected thyroid issues.
Trouble swallowing..voice hoarseness..not to mention other hypo symptoms including extreem fatigue, hair loss, and much more.
I have been noticing things for several years now..always blood tests are normal..This past year swallowing and voice have been more and more troubling. In June I started to really loose my voice...especially by the end of the day. The tightening feeling was miseriable like I had something tied too tight around my neck. 3 ENTs...and on my second GP...ultrasound says I have a couple of nodules...one being 2cm. The docs keep telling me that nodules that size wouldn't be causing me my difficulties.
Over the weekend I noticed a lumpy area in the front part of my neck. right where I would think my thyroid would be. It is very tender...sometimes it is a little mushy...other times it is very firm and more swollen (larger) and more tender than other times. It seems to be more firm, swollen and tender at night. When I was able to show it to the ENT..was at a time when the lump was in the mushier stage.
Anyway...What the heck is it??? I hate that it seems that everything I go through I have such a hard time getting docs to listen to me. Ugg
Have you seen a Endo? Tenderness may be thyroiditis. I read that tenderness & swelling may indicate a cancer especially considering it is large. I've had acute thyroiditis & now have it off & on. Fam
No I haven't seen an endo...I have been asking for a referral...but the docs keep wanting to send my to a GI...I just KNOW this is not coming from my stomach...they have had me on reflux meds for two months no change.( keep telling them I don't have any relux symptoms...they say I may not be aware of it )...I will push for endo appointment...thanks so much

Your thyroid is just below your Adam's apple and the V-shaped notch where your collar bones join. Is that the place you're talking about? If so, you certainly might be feeling your nodules or enlarged gland.
yes..that whole area is swollen and tender...i can run my fingers around the edges and it makes the shape of the thyroid. this has come up in the past week. i have felt it for much longer on the inside...meaning it wasn't visible like it is now and it wasn't able to palpate it like now. On Monday I went to the ENT...she felt for it and didn't feel it but I could....now it is visible and much harder to the touch....holiday weekend and can't get in with someone new. I really don't want to go back to the ENT the couldn't feel it last week!
