likelihood of developing Hashimotos if I have antibodies

Hi everyone,

I just got my blood work and sonogram done by the endocrinologist and she said that my thyroid is smaller than normal and I have the antibodies for Hashimotos, but that my TSH and T4 levels are normal so she is going to retest in 6 months but is not going to treat me at this time. What is the likelihood that I will go on to develop hypothyroidism in the future?

You have it now. No question about it.

I looked up your previous posts to the board and found that you have multiple symptoms and below-range T4. That is hypothyroid, Jenny. Your ignorant MD is waiting for your TSH to go above range before she will treat, and that could take years. The antibodies keep TSH suppressed, so you might go a long time suffering needlessly until then.

If you can't convince this MD to let you start treatment now, then you really ought to find one who will.
