Well, had the TT yesterday. Surgery was around 11:30...done by 1:30. Stayed in hosp until about 6:30-7:00. Then we drove home...2 hrs. It wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. My ovarian cyst surgery and the DNC I had hurt alot more than this did. Last night, throat VERY sore. They had to use a larger breathing tube than ususal. The surgeon wanted to use one that has some kind of wires or something in it to be sure of not damaging my vocal chords--(Which I appreciated him doing, although the throat is very sore). My neck hurts of course too.
One thing that really bothers is sleeping. I can't get comfortable. Can't lay on my side--hurts the incision.....can't lay on my back (sleep apnea I guess-stop breathing and wake up all night) so, looks like I'm in the recliner tonight!
I've eaten LOTS of jello. It can slide down withour any effort. Swallowing is painful. Even scrambled eggs this a.m. got stuck in my throat. Keeping hard candies of hand to suck on alot. That seems to help. I've drank so much water (to help food go down) that I have to pee constantly! Very tired, yes, but that's because of the pain meds.
I was prescribed Levothyroxine 125mg to take daily, and Caltrate 600 for a few days. I don't have to be on the calcium forever though. He told me to take levo on an empty stomach and NOT to take the Caltrate until 4hrs or so after. I guess it could mess with the absorbtion of the other.
So, all is well as it can be I guess. I won't find out biopsy results until Thursday when the surgeon will call me. I have an appt back with him in 6 wks to check levels (from what I'm told--I was pretty out of it yesterday). Any information any of you have or experiences with Levothyroxine would be appreciated. Thank you. And I'm sure I'll post more soon.
Hi, welcome back from surgery, I had mine tuesday, check my post that I just wrote.
You were very lucky that they released you the same day!!! I was stuck in the hospital for 2 days (my calcium levels dropped) and it was the worst for me, very depressing seeing everybody else going home but me. I agree with you, the sleeping thing is awful, I'm still sleeping with a couple of pillows because I was so happy when they told me to go home that forgot to ask if I could lay flat on the bed already, I called the surgeon office and they were supposed to call me back to let me know but my phone was busy with family and friends calling me to find out how I was that if they try to call I guess they didn't get through, so for now I'm keeping the pillows!
I am taking levoxyl since may and is great for me, I was having a condition called tellogen efluvium (massive hair fall) due to my hypothyroid condition, one month or so after I started the levoxyl stopped, so I have to say that levoxyl is the best for me, now they put me in 125 mcg, I started off with 25, then 50, then 88 and now with no thyroid gland they increased to 125, I just started yesterday, I was off my levoxyl for the few days in the hospital up until my pathology report came back benign on thursday as soon as I was released. Let me know how you doing, how you manage to sleep and we can keep consoling each other in this recovery time!!!
Glad to hear you are doing well after your surgery! I can't believe you went home on the same day of your surgery. I'm sure you were out of it yesterday. I was so sleepy and droggy after my surgery I can't imagine making the trip home...good for you though that you did not have to stay in the hospital, that can be a drag.
Sleeping was difficult for me too after surgery. I could not find any comfortable positions in bed or on the couch. The recliner was my friend for quite awhile after surgery. I was always amazed at how I could get such good rest sleeping in a chair. I don't know if it would work the same now or not!! Just so you know you will eventually be able to sleep in bed!!
I am on levothyroxine. I have not had any trouble with it. I have had my dose adjusted once since surgery. I am on 75 mcg...but I did have a PT not a TT. I have blood drawn again in a couple of weeks so I will know if I need another adjustment or not. I am still losing hair but am remaining hopeful that it will stop soon!
Take care...get lots of rest..don't over do...and turn your head lots through out the day so you don't get stiff.
