Just had a thyroidectomy

I just had my thyroid taken out and am going to be starting synthroid soon. Just wanted to hear some people's experiences with it, I am getting a wide variety of info on it but personal experiences always seem to be most accurate

Re: Just had a thyroidectomy

I there, I have my thyroid removed a week ago today, feel better but still reeling from the anesthesia and medications, my stomach is a mess and I hadn't been able to sleep well since then, because I can't lay on my stomach or my sides still, only on my back and with an extra pillow is very difficult for me to get a full night sleep. Just last night I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep till almost 6, I woke up at 9 with upset stomach. I guess I'm not good with anesthesia period. My insicion looks good, it feels tight I guess because is healing, I started my levoxyl last friday as soon as my surgeon got the path report negative for cancer, I'm on 125mcg, feeling a little bit palpitations but not very bad I know is the process till I get adjusted so I'm not going to worry about it. When did you have your Thyrecdoctomy? was it total or partial? are you back to work? well hope you feeling happy as I do to have that period of my life over, no more gland to make me feel sick again!!!

Re: Just had a thyroidectomy

I had my entire thyriod out on Fri. Still awaiting the path report b/c it came back inconclusive so i can't start meds until i have the go ahead. i am feeling okay, but it is definitely going to be a process.

Re: Just had a thyroidectomy

I had my thyroid out 3.5 years ago for thyroid cancer, and I am on synthroid, and doing just fine. It did take some time to find the right dose.....but you'll get there!

Re: Just had a thyroidectomy

That is good to hear. Some people sound like they had a very hard time and I am not experiencing many issues (knock on wood) so I did not know if the worst is yet to come or if it just takes time.
