Question Can you take diet pills if you have thyroid disease???

Hello ~

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 2 years ago, after the birth of my daughter. I've since had another baby who is now just about 11 month's old, and I have been struggling trying to lose weight, but I just can't seem to do it, no matter how much I exercise or watch my diet. With two young children I have really low energy, and I can't stand that I can't keep up with them due to the combination of my weight, depression, and thyroid issues.

Is there a diet pill (prescription or non-prescription) that is SAFE to help someone who is hypothyroid lose weight?

I haven't talked to my doctor about this yet, only because I'm not sure how she would react to my request?

Anyone know if there is something to help?

Zuzu

Re: Can you take diet pills if you have thyroid disease???

My Md recommends weight watchers, working with a nutricionist, working with a physical trainer. Taking dietary supplements when you are hypothyroid and trying to optimize thyroid meds can be dangerous or just plain wasteful. When your thyroid hormone levels are optimized good diet and lifestyle changes should be all you need. If this doesn't work you may need to look into insulin resistance and reactive hypoglycemia. With thyroid issues many other endocrine issues may be at fault.
