What is T7?

My daughters councelor gave her a script for blood work in the script it says T3-T4-T7-TSH. I haven't heard of T7 what is that. She has thyroid problems that were never addressed for many yrs. Has medicaid & no Dr's care, I'm going to the clinic tommorrow w/her to ask for new blood work scrip. I heard FreeT3-FreeT4, potassium. calcium & ferritin from these boards but never heard T7? Can anyone help us understand that? Thanks

Re: What is T7?

The T7 test is a useless one. The result is arrived at by doing a total T4 and a T3 uptake test at the same time. Some kind of mathematical hocus-pocus is done with those results. After all that rigamarole, what you end up with is an estimate of free T4.... When one single, correct test - the actual free T4 test - could give you a genuine, accurate free T4 level. I have seen several instances of folks having both a FT4 and a T7 test done with the same blood sample. In each case, the T7 did not reflect the actual FT4 level... proving what a bogus, dumb test it is.

If that's the way the clinic does it, though, she may not have much choice about the tests she gets.

Re: What is T7?

That was a different clinic for her bi-polar (which I think is her thyroid not being treated)
I told her forget that one we'll go to health clinic & get a script & ask for certain tests on it like FREE 3 & 4 etc. I just wish there was decent help out there for her, I've already gone into debt helping her. Medicaid stinks! Thanks for answering
