how to lose weight while taking methimazole

how to lose weight while taking methimazole....i have been taking methimazole for one year and i ballooned from i20 lbs to 147 lbs and still gaining. i asked the doctor and was told that i ate too much and will lose it if i go on a diet, i am so miserable and i still feel bad worse than before i was diagnosed with the thyroid disorder. please help so that i could lose at least 20 lbs

Hi! If you've been on meds this long you're probably in the hypo range which can cause weight gain. I have been on meds for over 2 years and have gained about 7 pounds. I notice if I go to the hypo range i will gain. Find out what your labs look like and post the numbers and we'll be able to tell you. Sometimes you get in a habit of eating a lot before going on meds because being hyper makes you so hungry.
