For me it was longer than most - my vocal chord nerve was cut and they didnt know if I would get my voice back at all. Thankfully I did but even now (2 1/2 years later) my voice goes very weak and crackly at times.

I would talk to your surgeon, but everyone heals differently, it depends alot upon internal swelling, ---you can help a bit with motrin type of drug, but it took me in the 3-5 months range to extend my voice to singing level, and it was very gradual, my friend had vocal chord paralysis, and it took much longer.
Re: how long does it take to get your singing voice back after thyroid surgery
My talking voice was only scratchy for 2 days and then about half a day on RAI. My singing voice returned less than 2 weeks after surgery, but it was weak and I couldn't go very high. It's gradually returned to ALMOST what it was before surgery, but I still cannot hit those high notes as gracefully as I used to Small price to pay, though, to be cancer-free.
