I am new here, and have so many problems, that I am seeking answers in this Thyroid Forum. I have suspected I have Thyroid problems for about 8 years, but everytime I have bloodwork done, it comes back O.K. so I go searching elsewhere, Neuropathy, Arthritis, Fibromayalgia, etc. Come up with nothing much to confirm any of the above. Here is my question, on top of all my other Thyroid related symptoms, I have a tightness in my throat, and the area on my neck where the thyroid is located is darker (red tint) to skin. Feels rough like a rash. When I get upset or tired this area gets bright red. Everyone notices it. I had never considered this to be part of my symptoms list. Did any of you have this red area on throat?
The pressure probably comes from thyroid gland enlargement.
I can't tell you for certain that the red skin is thyroid-related, but common sense says it probably is.
I have had an intense, maddening, deep itch on my throat that overlies the thyroid gland. There were times I scratched the skin bloody trying to get at that itch, which always seemed too deep to reach. When I mentioned it to my MD, he said he had never heard of that before. He said that inflammation of the gland was a logical reason for it.
I could envision that kind of inflammation being responsible for skin inflammation in that area, too. Like I said... can't say for sure, though.
When I wash my face and neck I notice that I am very red in that area. In fact, I can just rub my neck and it gets red easily. I just figured it was because of the antibodies. I have Hashi's.
